The ability to create your character and have whatever gender you choose effect 'the main story' is always a nice touch.
Difficult, and tidious but nice! The mindset you should have going into this game is to understand while it may be based in an mmo, it is not one. You play a gamer who has never expirianced a 'virtual reality' game before, and a very lucky one at that.
That being said. YOU'RE NOT KIRITO for a change. Unlike all of their previous entries. It's not a perfect game, but it's a very well crafted 'JRPG' and I love it! That aside, there's a lack of content. The coop is just boss rush mode, no adventuring or dungeon clearing with friends. After beating the story, there's no real reason to play. Coop would make the game 4stars imo, adding more activities to do would make it a 5star to me. If you couldn't care less about coop and just want a good single player game, you'll most likely enjoy it. And just because the show it originated from revolved around an MMO, doesn't mean it has to be an MMO! Now my review; I personally don't watch SAO.
I bought this game because it was an anime gun RPG with sweet CaC customization. The story is slow to start up, but I loved it, and I think this game really does a nice job with the story and the friendship system. But, the story can't last forever. And other than some side quests(which are fun in a challenging way, not an adventuring way), their's not much. This game has seriously crazy potential, all it needs is a few updates and a major co-op revamp. Other than that, I'd say it's worth every dime.

TLDR; Great game with rewarding gameplay, fun dialogue, and only real complaints being it can be a little grindy and the lack of English voice acting.-As a fan of the anime series but also someone who has never played any of the other games (I mostly play games on Xbox), I was on the fence about buying it until a friend of mine who I met in another 'anime' game (RWBY: Grimm Eclipse) strongly recommended it, and if he recommended it so strongly then I trusted his opinion. I had the extra cash and bought the digital deluxe edition (season pass for ALL future DLC and some fun bonuses) and haven't regretted it. It was far from flawless but the gameplay was consistently solid in experience, and the post launch support has been amazing, you can tell the developers actually listen to the complaints and suggestions of the fans. The only major complaint is the affinity grinding, but they have added a lot of features to lessen it since launch. out of luck of getting the complete edition exclusive add-ons and also have to pay an extra $20 for the latest add-on so we pay $95.Great.
